Manager, Food Sciences Centre
St. Paul Regional Service Centre
Full Time Term Position until April 2014
Salary: $89,676 to $99,348 per annum

Portage College is actively seeking a highly motivated and goal-orientated Manager, who will lead the physical re-design of the St. Paul Campus as the Centre of Specialization for Food Sciences Training, and who will lead the development of a business incubator and commercial food production lab.

Reporting to the Vice President, Student & College Services, the Manager of Food Sciences, will collaboratively lead the College?s Centre of Specialization for Food Sciences Training from development, design, and the operational oversight of the Centre, including:
? Participating in strategic and operational governance to ensure long range plans for the St. Paul Campus are achievable and follow the vision for the Centre of Specialization for Food Sciences Training.
? Consulting with local stakeholders, including the Community Advisory Committee.
? Providing continuing education training at the St. Paul Campus, and ensuring program expansion plans and program development is on schedule.
? Developing and maintaining an appropriate staffing structure to oversee all lab and incubator operations to support the needs of the business.
? Identifying opportunities for cost-effective investment to expand operations or increase efficiency; develop business case justifications and cost/benefit analyses for spending initiatives.
? Implementing all project management, change control, and other processes to ensure business continuity and efficiency objectives are obtained.
? Coordinating and facilitating consultation with contractors to ensure capital projects are effectively managed.
? Ensuring proper health and safety clearances and insurance coverage are obtained for clients.

The Manager, Food Sciences Centre, will:
? Be an outcomes based leader capable of establishing goals that are relevant, realistic, and attainable.
? Work collaboratively with the Vice President of Student & College Service, Vice President Academic, Director of Infrastructure & IT, Director of Community & Industry Training Initiatives, Deans, and Faculty to fulfill the College?s mandate to bring an exceptional learning experience to students.
? Be a team player with a strong commitment to both internal dialogue and provision of opportunities for employee engagement.

This position is located at the Portage College St. Paul Regional Service Centre in St. Paul, Alberta. In addition, the College has a Regional Service Centre in Cold Lake, and a number of community campuses throughout Northeastern Alberta, including program presence on First Nations reserves and M?tis settlements. The College?s Corporate Centre is located in Lac La Biche, Alberta.

Qualifications:
? University Degree in a Business Degree program coupled with a strong knowledge of the food services/sciences industry in Alberta and Canada. Preference will be given to candidates with certificates and diplomas of ongoing education.
? Experience working with architects, engineers, and other consultants on major construction projects.
? A proven record of at least five years professional experience in: fields of business planning and project execution, understanding multiple disciplines and diverse organizations, project management, strategic planning and execution, as well as budgeting and business planning.
? Minimum five years working experience at a post-secondary institution.
? Strong leadership, organizational, excellent written and oral communication, and strong negotiation skills are necessary.
? Extensive knowledge of provincial and federal standards in food handling and production.
? Knowledge of apprenticeship level food-related programming.
? Experience working in a cross-cultural environment
